We are a female photography duo based in Portland Oregon specializing in people and event photography. We shoot as a team, allowing us to document events in their entirety, be it birthday, wedding, or other special occasion. Each of us contributes a unique yet complimentary photographic perspective with one common goal; to capture the special moments that you’ll want to remember.
We feel privileged to photograph the intimate bond and expression of love that exists between people. Whether traditional or non-traditional, individuals or families, we find joy in celebrating life’s memorable moments.

KATE HORTON
I am a native Portlander who first became interested in photography in high school. I went on to study photojournalism at the University of Oregon, where I joined the university’s daily newspaper and became photo editor of the School of Journalism’s annual award-winning magazine. After graduation, I left the West Coast in pursuit of a career in photojournalism in New York City. I worked as the photo editor of ForbesTraveler.com, and assisted well-respected photographers and retouchers. Finally I found myself at the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. As their Communications Coordinator, I traveled, photographed, wrote blogs and edited brief videos.
Through the years I have come to recognize the power and importance of story telling through photography. This has translated into my ability to capture life’s cherished moments including weddings, portraits and travel in a photo-documentary style. The excitement I feel when looking at a beautiful image inspires me to challenge myself and explore new, different points of view.
I was born and raised on the West Coast and fell in love with photography in 1997 when I moved to Portland and bought my first camera. Within 5 years I photographed my first wedding, propelling me into the art of people photography. Since then I have covered a variety of events including weddings, festivals, and theatre performances. In the last decade I’ve had the opportunity to travel through 14 countries and 3 continents, where I have thrived on documenting the people, culture and traditions that make these places special. Photography has opened up an avenue through which I've met interesting individuals and had the privilege to participate in moments of their lives.
I have studied and worked in a variety of creative-based fields including photography, multi-media art, and graphic, interior, landscape and urban design. My background has led me to look for the beauty in the most intricate details, which I aim to capture through my photography.

"Erin and Kate understood our desires completely. They exceeded our expectations by staying until they captured all the photos we requested, as well as photos they felt like we would want that we never even considered. They beautifully captured the intimate nature and lighting at our reception, as well as the unique details of why we choose the venue in the first place. We've especially enjoyed the photos of the candid moments of us, our family and friends. I would highly recommend Parallel Photography to anyone looking to have an event photographed. " - Kyle and Mai
"My husband and I have had the pleasure of working with Parallel Photography in a number of different contexts, and their style has always been a creative yet tasteful reflection of the nature of the shoot and our own unique tastes and personalities. They are now our #1 go-to gals whenever we need great photos for any reason, whether it's professional, personal or a special occasion." - Mel
"Our son Alex tends to be a little photo-shy, so it's always a struggle to get him to be himself around a camera. Kate and Erin were so patient with him during our photo session. They encouraged us to engage him in activities that he enjoys so that they could get some good shots of him "in action" doing what he loves. We were also very impressed with the speed of service. We have hired other professional photographers in the past who were difficult to schedule and would often take several weeks to respond to us. Erin and Kate were flexible with our session time and we'll be asking Parallel Photography to do all of our family photos in the future." - Tonie
"Kate and Erin of Parallel Photography did an outstanding job photographing our wedding. They brought great ideas and enthusiasm to the table but were very sensitive to our own wishes. Not only did they catch memories that we will cherish forever, but they captured moments that we did not even know existed - apparently Kate and Erin were literally everywhere, yet I don't remember seeing or hearing a flash. The quality of our wedding photographs, in print form, have far exceeded our expectations and have made the whole experience that much more special." - Elizabeth & Rajeev
"I would recommend Parallel Photography to ANYONE who is looking to capture life's sweetest moments. We hired Erin and Kate to photograph our daughter's first birthday party and the pictures we have will be treasured forever. Their work has far exceeded my expectations and I am so glad we hired them. They didn't miss a moment, a look, or an expression. Not only is their work top notch, but they are so great to work with and a joy to be around. I can't say enough wonderful things about them and their work. We are looking forward to more occasions to utilize their exceptional talents. " - Sarah
"I LOVE my wedding photos! Choosing Parallel as my wedding photographer was one of the best, easiest decisions I made in planning the big event. You got gorgeous, artistic shots of details that defined the event, location, and day while effortlessly knocking all the "must-have" shots, too. You two truly have the loveliest personalities, a major plus on such a potentially-stressful day, and have been a joy to work with at every step. Now that my wedding is behind me, I am so delighted to have these photographs to treasure and share. Thank you!" - Nicole
