Kate's Drawers...

Congratulations to Parallel's very own Kate Horton! She was among the 60 photographers selected by Portland's esteemed Blue Sky Gallery for the 2014 Drawer Series (yes - literally her work is in drawers). Unlike the photographs on the wall, you can take these photos out of the drawers, closely inspect them and sort through them. It's great fun!

The subject of her collection is a homeless couple in Portland, OR - Cassi and AJ - whom she got to know over a number of years. When Kate first met the couple, Cassi was 3-months pregnant. Kate photographed multiple aspects of their life including their life on the streets, prenatal doctor visits, moving into their own apartment, their wedding day, life at home with baby, and all sorts of life events in between. It's a fascinating story told beautifully through Kate's images.

Last night was First Thursday and Kate's opening, and it was a smash! Hundreds of visitors came through the gallery. For those of you who didn't make it out, Kate's work and the other selected 2014 photographs will be on display all year. Please come down and support Kate by checking out her amazing work!
You can also see more photos of her 'Cassi and AJ' photo collection here
(Part I), (Part II), and (Part III).
